Retractable Awnings in Lebanon for Balconies, Terraces and Restaurants

A retractable awning creates shade when it is needed and keeps the outdoor area open when it is not. It is a practical solution for balconies, terraces, pool areas, cafés and restaurants where permanent roofing is unnecessary or undesirable. Window & Wall supplies manual and motorized awning systems for residential and commercial projects throughout Lebanon.

Outdoor systems must be selected for structural load, projection, sun exposure, wind conditions, fixing surface and fabric performance. The correct awning is not chosen from width alone. A site survey is required to confirm the wall or slab, installation height, arm clearance and safe fixing points.

Awning styles

  • Open folding-arm awnings: a straightforward retractable solution where the roller and arms remain visible when closed.
  • Semi-cassette awnings: provide additional protection to part of the mechanism and fabric roll.
  • Full-cassette awnings: enclose the fabric and arms when retracted for a cleaner appearance and stronger protection from exposure.
  • Pergola and guided systems: used for larger projections or applications requiring supported fabric movement.

Outdoor fabrics

High-quality awning fabrics are designed for prolonged sun exposure and outdoor use. Solution-dyed acrylic is widely used because it combines colour stability, water repellency and a textile appearance. PVC-coated technical fabrics may be preferred for selected waterproof or commercial applications. Colour, orientation and exposure should be considered together because darker and lighter fabrics behave differently in glare and heat.

Manual, motorized and automated control

Smaller awnings can be operated by hand crank. Larger or frequently used awnings are more convenient with a tubular motor controlled by a wall switch or remote. Compatible systems can also be connected to app-based control or a wider automation platform.

A wind sensor can provide automatic retraction when movement or wind exceeds the configured threshold. This is an important protective feature, but it does not make an awning safe in every wind condition. A retractable awning should be closed during storms, severe weather or whenever conditions exceed the manufacturer's rating.

Fixing and structural checks

The mounting substrate must be capable of carrying the awning loads. Hollow blocks, cladding, insulation systems and weak concrete may require special anchors, steel supports or another fixing strategy. Final approval should only follow a site inspection and confirmation of the structural condition.

Frequently asked questions

Is an awning waterproof?

Some fabrics offer water repellency and selected systems use waterproof technical membranes, but performance depends on fabric, pitch, seams, projection and drainage. A standard folding-arm awning should not be described as a permanent rain roof.

Do I need a wind sensor?

It is strongly recommended for exposed and motorized installations. The sensor is a protective aid, not a replacement for responsible operation in severe weather.

How far can an awning project?

Maximum projection depends on the specific frame, width, arm rating, installation height and fixing structure. We confirm it from the selected system's technical limits.
